The Clothes I Reach For Every Summer Trip
Summer travel used to stress me out.
Mostly because heat has a way of exposing every unrealistic expectation you have about looking polished.
The second humidity enters the conversation?
It's over.
My hair expands.
My makeup disappears.
I immediately regret every fabric choice I've made.
Eventually, I stopped fighting it.
Instead of trying to dress the way I wanted to look, I started dressing for the way I actually travel.
I Dress Completely Differently In Warm Weather
For most of the year, my wardrobe is predictable.
Straight-leg jeans.
Bodysuits.
Blazers.
Layers.
But once temperatures climb, everything changes.
Suddenly I'm looking for airflow more than structure.
Comfort becomes non-negotiable.
Lightweight Bottoms Changed Everything
This was probably the biggest shift in the way I pack.
Instead of forcing myself into denim in ninety-degree weather, I started reaching for pieces that actually work with the climate.
Wide-leg trousers.
Silk pants.
Linen blends.
Loose culottes.
Almost always high-waisted.
They're cooler.
More comfortable.
They photograph beautifully.
And somehow they still manage to look polished after a full day of walking.
My Summer Uniform Is Simple
A fitted top.
Loose bottoms.
That's almost always the formula.
Usually it's a ribbed tank, a lightweight bodysuit, or a simple cropped top paired with wide-leg trousers, relaxed shorts, or an easy dress.
I've found that the less I have to think about getting dressed, the more I enjoy the place I'm actually in.
I Still Pack Almost Entirely Neutrals
Black.
White.
Grey.
Olive.
Tan.
Navy.
Not because colorful wardrobes aren't beautiful.
Because I like opening my suitcase and knowing everything works together without effort.
When every top goes with every bottom, getting dressed becomes the easiest part of the day.
Fabric Matters More Than The Outfit
This took me far too long to learn.
Linen.
Cotton.
Lightweight knits.
Soft, breathable fabrics.
Those choices make a much bigger difference than chasing the perfect vacation outfit.
The fastest way to ruin a travel day is to spend it trapped inside clothing that wasn't designed for the weather you're in.
I Wear Less Makeup Than I Used To
I used to pack an entire makeup bag.
Most of it came home untouched.
Now I care much more about skincare.
SPF.
Sunglasses.
Simple jewelry.
Hair pulled back.
Heat has a way of simplifying your priorities.
Summer Travel Changed My Definition Of Looking Put Together
For a long time, I thought looking polished meant controlling every detail.
Travel slowly convinced me otherwise.
Now, looking put together means feeling comfortable enough to spend twelve hours wandering a city, sitting outside for dinner, getting caught in unexpected rain, and still wanting to keep exploring.
The best outfits are the ones you stop thinking about after you put them on.
Packing Light Means Repeating Yourself
I used to think packing well meant bringing more options.
Now I know it means bringing better ones.
A small wardrobe where everything works together will always outperform a suitcase full of "just in case."
I've worn the same linen trousers across multiple countries, countless flights, and more summers than I can remember.
Not because I lack imagination.
Because they work.
And the more I travel, the less interested I become in dressing for strangers.
I'd rather dress for the version of myself that's busy exploring somewhere new.
